A temple of worship for Jewish worships
Minyan
Minimum number of people who can make daily prayers valid. Have to be Adult.
Orthodox=male
Liberal=male and female
Must have 10 Adults
Menorah
a sacred candelabrum with seven branches used in the ancient temple in Jerusalem
Star of David
Is found on the outside of a synagogue. It is the symbol for Judaism
Torah scrolls
The religious scrolls for Judaism
Beit K’nesset
a synagogue: often used in the names of congregations
Shul
A school
Bimah
the altar part or sanctuary in ancient and Orthodox churches
Aron Hakodesh (the ark)
is the most important place inside all synagogues. The Aron Hakodesh is where the Torah scroll is kept
Ner tamid
DescriptionA sanctuary lamp, chancel lamp, altar lamp, everlasting light, or eternal flame is a light that shines before the altar of sanctuaries in many Jewish and Christian places of worship
Cantor (chazzan)
an official who sings liturgical music and leads prayer in a synagogue
Tallit
a fringed garment, traditionally worn as a prayer shawl by religious Jews
Tefillen
a set of small black leather boxes containing scrolls of the Torah
Tzitzit
specially knotted ritual fringes, or tassels, worn in antiquity by Israelites and today by observant Jews. They represent the 613 scrolls
Amidah
is the central prayer of the Jewish liturgy
Shema
is a Jewish prayer, and is also the first two words of a section of the Torah, and is the title of a prayer that serves as a centerpiece of the morning and evening Jewish prayer services
Shabbat
The weekend of rest starting from friday evening to Sunday morning.
Kiddush
is a blessing recited over wine or grape juice to sanctify the Shabbat and Jewish holidays

A service which some Jews attended to show their faith.

The bread which is cut during shabbat and prayed over
Mezuzah
a piece of parchment called a klaf contained in a decorative case and inscribed with specific Hebrew verses from the Torah

the second main division of the Hebrew Bible
Ketvium
is the third and final section of the Tanakh
Mishnah
an authoritative collection of exegetical material embodying the oral tradition of Jewish law and forming the first part of the Talmud
Tenakh
an acronym derived from the names of the three divisions of the Hebrew Bible
Talmud
the body of Jewish civil and ceremonial law and legend comprising the Mishnah and the Gemara
Naming ceremony
an event at which a person or persons is officially assigned a name
Brit Malah
a Jewish religious male circumcision ceremony performed by a mohel on the eighth day after the infant’s birth
Circumsision
the action or practice of circumcising a young boy or man.
Bar and bat Mitzvah
The official beginning of an adult when he or she turns 13
Marriage
legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship
Mourning of the dead
to feel or express sorrow or grief. to grieve or lament for the dead. to show the conventional or usual signs of sorrow over a person’s death
Dietary laws
any of the laws observed by Orthodox Jews that permit or prohibit certain foods
Rosh Hashanah
Literally means ‘head of the year’

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement
