The Jewish law that deals with what foods, Jews can and can’t eat

A hymn of praise to God, found in Jewish prayer services

What is allowed - The way food is cooked, eaten or sold
Triefah
What isn’t allowed - Any food that isn’t kosher

The Jewish holy book

The books of prophets

The book of wisdom
Shema
The prayer that is said in the morning and evening and is inspired by the Torah
Torah
Jewish Bible. Contains the books of genesis, Leviticus, exodus, numbers and Deuteronomy

Jewish teacher or leader
Tikkun Olam
The jewish word for describing acts of kindness or goodness
Gan Eden
The jewish word for ‘garden of eden’ or heaven. This is in the afterlife where the souls comes to rest with God
Gehinnom
The jewish word for hell
Olam Ha-Ba
The world to come

The removal of foreskin from the penis
Halakah
The name given to 613 commandments which God gave to Moses. The most accepted list is Maimonides
Mitzvot
Jewish Law

A promise between two parties. It is offered and then can either be taken or rejected

The call to prayer
Minyan
A group of 10 men or adults over the age of 13
Yeshiva
A jewish place of study. This is where individuals will go to study the torah
Shavout
Is a jewish day of reflection which remembers when God gave the Torah to Moses at Mount Sinai
