Name the 3 different types of Jews
Orthodox, conservative, reformed
Orthodox Jews
old-fashioned and strict Letter of the Law. Men wear black suits, hats, and resemble the Amish. Men are held in a higher status then women.
Conservative Jews
in-between orthodox and reformed Jews. They have women as rabbis but also pay special attention to the old laws.
Reformed Jews
more modern and have a more lenient way to the rules. Women can partake in being rabbis

What do all 3 types of Jews keep as their eating habits
Kosher
What is kosher
the dietary laws found in the Torah that say what to eat and how. They cannot eat pork and shellfish. Rabbis have to physically go to the scene and watch how they prepare the food. They cannot have milk and meat at the same meal. A “K” is found on packages if it is rabbi approved.
Bar Mitzvah
the ceremony for a boy that invites them to the adulthood (our confirmation) 13 years of age
Bat mitzvah
the ceremony for a girl that invites them to the adulthood (our confirmation) 12 years of age
Rosh Hashanah
the high holidays (serious times of the year) which represents the Jewish New Year. It goes for about 2 days. Their current year is A.M. 5775. (September 23rd is their New Year’s Day) Anno mundi- the Latin term for “the year of the world”- when god created Adam and Eve
Yom Kippur
(the most serious and meaningful day of the year) 10 days after their New Year. Means “Day of atonement” is when you ask for forgiveness personally. They feel that God has a judgement book that is open for those 10 days. He can change how he feels about you and how you are leading your life.
Hanukkah
it celebrates a time when Jewish people were not allowed to go into their temple in Jerusalem for 8 days. They thought that the eternal light would go out, but when they returned, the light was still burning and called a miracle. The holiday is 8 days long. The diaspora holds 8 candles. Each night, the light one candle and say prayers. Evolving from Christians, the children are guaranteed one present each night for Hanukkah.
Passover
(coincides with our Easter) Sader- the special meal of Passover. Each of the foods reminds the Jews about something that happened with the slaves. The Last Supper was a Passover meal. Passover has to do with the angel of death in Egypt coming to kill the 1st born son of every Egyptian family. God warned the Jewish when seeing the lamb’s blood symbol on top of the doorway and “passed over” their doors.
Torah
Equivalent to the catholic bible Hand-Written on a scroll of sheepskin Takes 1 year to complete Written in Hebrew It is chanted when read (right to left) Talmud- a Jewish document that is at one's home that explains the Torah
