What is kosher

A

the dietary laws found in the Torah that say what to eat and how. They cannot eat pork and shellfish. Rabbis have to physically go to the scene and watch how they prepare the food. They cannot have milk and meat at the same meal. A “K” is found on packages if it is rabbi approved.

A

(the most serious and meaningful day of the year) 10 days after their New Year. Means “Day of atonement” is when you ask for forgiveness personally. They feel that God has a judgement book that is open for those 10 days. He can change how he feels about you and how you are leading your life.

Hanukkah

A

it celebrates a time when Jewish people were not allowed to go into their temple in Jerusalem for 8 days. They thought that the eternal light would go out, but when they returned, the light was still burning and called a miracle. The holiday is 8 days long. The diaspora holds 8 candles. Each night, the light one candle and say prayers. Evolving from Christians, the children are guaranteed one present each night for Hanukkah.

Passover

A

(coincides with our Easter) Sader- the special meal of Passover. Each of the foods reminds the Jews about something that happened with the slaves. The Last Supper was a Passover meal. Passover has to do with the angel of death in Egypt coming to kill the 1st born son of every Egyptian family. God warned the Jewish when seeing the lamb’s blood symbol on top of the doorway and “passed over” their doors.

A

small farming villages in Israel that cooperate together in combing money, crops, and sharing new ideas. Kibbutz is a cooperative settlement found in Israel. These people completely share meals, work, and profits. By belonging to a kibbutz, the people receive housing, meals, education, and health care by working in return.

What geographical problems did Israel have to overcome to build a healthy economy?

A

build irrigation systems and make use of their deserts. When turning desert into farmland, many more people moved into the area and sparked the economy when working. Also, Israel shares the Jordan River with Syria and Jordan. The country had to split its share of the river without causing a war
