Where and when did Judaism begin?
Judaism began nearly 4,000 years ago in a place called the Middle East.
How many gods do Jews believe in
Jews believe in one God.
Who did the Jews believe was the first person to make a covenant with God?
They believed Prophet Abraham was the first person ever to make a covenant with God.
How did the Hebrews become known as Israelites.
Because the Jews believed that God named Abraham’s grandson Israel so they became known as Israelites.
What is Abraham (AS) considered by Jews?
Abraham (AS) is considered the father of Jews.
Who are the Israelites considered to be?
The Israelites are considered to be the descendants of Abraham.
What did Musa (AS) do for the Jews?
Musa (AS) saved the Jews from Egypt, so he is also the most important person to Jews.
How can religion and religious text influence someone’s behavior?
Because religion tells people to do good and once people do it, they feel good, so they continue doing and also because it is very important to them.
What is a Tallit?
A special prayer Shawl (looks similar to a scarf)
How many strands does a tallit have and what does it represent?
It has 613 strands which represents laws in the torah.
What is a tefilin?
It is a small prayer box which contains the Shema prayer.
Where do jews atach it?
They attach it to their heads and arms as a sign of their devotion.
What does the shema tell the jews to do?
to love the Lord with all their head and heart.
What is the kippah?
It is a type of hat that covers the back of their head.
What else was it called sometimes?
Yarmulka.
