Q

what are the key features of a fugue

A

the subject is heard first on a solo instrument, other parts or instruments then play the subject one after the other, in imitation. the structure gives the music a largely polyphonic texture. each part then continues with other contrasting melodic ideas, occasionally re instating the subject or variations of it. there is no set structure for how a fugue should develop. often, when one part has fast moving notes, the other will have slow moving notes.
