Why asset management, why equities?
- More broadly speaking - when I first learned about it, thought it was just helping investors create value , long-term goal to generate return
- But after finding out more , I began to understand it the way I’ve always loved playing card games. A lot of the same components involved in AM – risk and reward, reassessing and implementing strategies based on changing market conditions, perfect for someone like me who loves combining quantitative skills with creative thinking
- Future outlook: constantly changing factors especially with tech and AI changing the ways we invest, I love working in these changing environments

Market outlook
- What we saw last year: Fed cut rates, US economy outperformed expectations
- As of recent: job reports showed higher employment – stock market dipped due to Fed not likely to cut rates, CPI and bank earnings reports recently released which …
- Looking forward: geopolitical tensions, outlook hinges on the Fed’s decision for rate cuts
- Trump tariffs and immigration policies could drive up inflation
One thing going on in the market that could affect JPM clients
One major macroeconomic factor currently impacting J.P. Morgan’s clients is this economic uncertainty that we’ve been seeing. More specifically, interest rate volatility has been a trend as the Fed cut interest rates in 2024 to stimulate the economy, but now there’s uncertainty in 2025 about whether they’ll maintain this course or pivot to tightening. Geopolitical tensions have also disrupted supply chains and caused market volatility.
These actions directly impact clients by affecting asset valuations and investment strategies. Rising interest rates, for instance, can lead to higher bond yields, creating opportunities in fixed income, but potentially lower equity valuations. For J.P. Morgan’s clients, this reinforces the importance of diversification and a balanced investment strategy across various asset classes whether it be equities, fixed income, and alternatives. Because this approach is what’s really going to allow clients to better navigate market volatility, and stay aligned with their long-term financial objectives, even as market conditions evolve.

What challenges might JPM face in a.m. within the next few years
3 Strengths and 3 Weaknesses
Strengths:
Insatiable love for learning: staying up late for RTWS class to finish models, pick up lots of hobbies quickly because I get absorbed in it- excited for this internship because it is the ultimate learning opportunity
Highly adaptable, especially in terms of communication → high school, volunteered at senior home and taught young children, love understanding a person and (figuring out how to best) interact with them.
Never say no to a challenge – persistent and courageous (ex. – choosing computer science as a minor, even though I had no previous experience in the field, just because I found it interesting)

How interest rates affect equity/fixed income markets
Interest rates down: bonds less attractive because yields drop, stocks up
Interest rates up: bonds up, old bond prices drop, stocks down

JP Morgan Asset Management – why us?
J.P. Morgan Asset Management appeals to me because of its strong reputation for research-driven investing. What really drew me in, though, was hearing from professionals at the firm who emphasized the culture of collaboration and mentorship.
Coming from a background where I’ve worked on financial analysis and market research, I want to be in an environment that pushes me to think critically about investment decisions. J.P. Morgan’s focus on active management and innovative investment strategies excites me because I thrive in fast-paced, intellectually challenging settings.
I also admire how the firm embraces technology, especially in areas like AI and quantitative research, to enhance investment strategies. As someone who enjoys combining analytical thinking with real-world applications, I see J.P. Morgan as the perfect place to grow and contribute.”*
Don’t have direct investing experience – why you?
- Experience I’m excited to gain through the internship
- I possess skills that I’m confident are equally as important: …
- Researching, valuating a company: digging into company’s financials, finding out where value lies: important for stock picking (RTWS)
- Curious and love learning: helped me stay informed on macro trends, investment themes particularly like AI b/c of CS minor
- Working well with people - part of the role, working with portfolio managers, research analysts, traders (consulting, Blueprint)
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
“In five years, I see myself advancing toward a portfolio management role within J.P. Morgan Asset Management, contributing to investment decision-making and portfolio construction. I want to build a strong foundation in equity research, security selection, and risk management—developing the ability to analyze companies, assess macroeconomic trends, and implement data-driven investment strategies that generate strong risk-adjusted returns for clients.
In the near term, I aim to strengthen my technical skills, including financial modeling, valuation techniques, and quantitative analysis, while also gaining exposure to J.P. Morgan’s broad investment platform across asset classes. Additionally, I recognize the importance of client relationships in asset management, so I want to develop the ability to communicate investment insights effectively and collaborate with institutional and high-net-worth clients.
Ultimately, my goal is to grow within J.P. Morgan, leveraging its industry-leading research and global resources to help drive investment performance. I’m excited about the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop my own investment philosophy, and contribute to the firm’s success in delivering innovative solutions to clients.”*

Advice for client given current market conditions
- Ask about client’s objectives, time horizon, liquidity
- Given current macro conditions:
Inflation cooled a bit but still hasn’t hit Fed’s target of 2%. Given geopolitical tensions and Trump’s goals to implement tariffs has risk of going back up
….
Allocate towards fixed income products to hedge interest rate risk given Fed’s uncertain stance on rate cuts (40%)
Keep a good amount in the stock market, dividend-paying stocks, AI/tech stocks, strong growth (50%)
Invest in commodities (gold, oil) to hedge inflation risk (10%)
Best work/school achievement
- Inner Voices taking over but experiencing low submission rates one year
- Rebranding and speaking with members to encourage submissions
Trend shaping the market
AI
- A major theme investors are focused on right now is AI and its impact on markets and capital allocation. AI has grown rapidly within the past few years and it has been a huge driver of recent equity market gains, especially in tech stocks like Nvidia and other semiconductor companies. A lot of the market’s strength has come from AI-related optimism… short or long term trend?
