Joints (Synovial) - Movement Analysis Flashcards
How many movement types are there?
6
State the movement types. (With their opposites)
- Flexion and Extension
- Abduction and Adduction
- Circumduction and Rotation
What is flexion?
Is the decreasing angle between the bones.
What is extension?
Is the increasing angle between the bones.
What is abduction?
Is the movement of body parts moving away from the midline of your body.
What is adduction?
Is the movement of body parts moving towards the midline of your body.
What is circumduction?
Is the movement of a limb, so the end of the bone moves in a circular motion.
What is rotation?
Is the movement of a limb on its rotating around its axis
How many joints are there?
6
What are the types of joints?
Hinge, Ellipsoid, plane, Pivot, Ball and Socket, Saddle.
What is a hinge joint?
Is the movement in 1 direction (flexion and extension occur)
What is a ball and socket joint?
Moves on all axes (flexion, extension, rotation, circumduction, abduction, adduction occur)
What is an ellipsoid joint?
Is the movement on two axes (flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, circumduction occur)
