Q

Synarthroses

A

Together joints. Bones joined by this joint type are separated by connective tissue which permits limited joint movement

Q

Diarthroses

A

Moveable or synovial joints. Provide free movement between the bones they join. Joints of locomotion have these kinds of joints. Have synovial fluid, space and membrane, articular surface, fibrous capsule

Articular surface

A

Smooths surfaces for articulation. Made of hyaline cartilage that caps underlying bones

10
Q

Syndesmosis

A

Fibrous joint. Opposed bones connected by fibrous tissue, almost immovable (examples–sutures of the cranium)

Q

Synchondrosis

A

Cartilaginous joint. 2 bones separated by cartilage. Permits very little movement.

15
Q

Synostosis

A

2 bones joined together by bone. Joint may have existed during development and grew as fibrous or cartilaginous until it was replaced as bone

16
Q

Bursae

A

Fluid filled sacs that separate muscles, tendons, skin fascia from certain bones. Has synovial fluid, serous membrane, and helps reduce friction. Frequently communicates with synovial cavity of adjacent joint

17
Q

Synovial tendon sheaths

A

Have a visceral later attached to parietal layer. Synovial fluid in the cavity allow for free movement of tendons over bone or joints. Also has serous membrane and helps reduce friction

18
Q

Arthritis

A

Inflammation of joint

19
Q

Synovitis

A

Inflammation of synovial membrane of joint

20
Q

Bursitis

A

Inflammation of bursa
