Joints Flashcards
What type of joint is it?
Synovial hinge joint (uniaxial)
What movement is the elbow joint?
flexion 140-150 degrees
extension 0-5 degrees
What movement is the radial-ulnar joint?
Pronation and supination
What are surfaces covered in?
articular surfaces are covered in hyaline cartilage
Humero ulnar joint
between the trochlea of the distal humerus and the trochlear notch of the ulna
Humero radial head
between the proximal radial head and capitulum of distal humerus
Superior radio ulnar joint
Between the head of the radius and the radial notch of the ulna
synovial pivot joint
stabilises radial ulna joint
inner surface lined with synovial membrane
fibrous joint
What is the elbow capsule?
Attached around the edge of the ulnar articular surfaces including the radial notch
Attachments of the ulnar collateral ligament
Medial epicondyle and proximal ulna
Attachments of the radial collateral ligament
lateral epicondyle and radial head
What is the olecranon Bursa?
Facilitates smooth movement of the skin over the olecranon process during flexion and extension
What is the carrying angle?
Medial edge of trochlea projecting distally
15 degrees between arm and forearm into abduction
disappears on full flexion and pronation in full extension
What is the cubital fossa?
medial border of the brachioradialis
Lateral border of the pronator teres
line drawn between the 2 epicondyles
within this are the biceps tendon, tendon of brachial, brachial artery and median nerve
What is the inferior radial ulna joint?
uniaxial synovial pivot joint
convex lower head of ulna
concave ulnar notch of distal radius
capsule
