Joint Types Flashcards
What is a hinge joint?
Are formed between two or more bones where the bones can only move along one axis to flex or extend.
What is a pivot joint?
Allows rotary movement on a singular axis.
What is a ball and socket joint?
Its structure is how it sounds, it moves in all axis.
What is an ellipsoid joint?
Similar to ball and socket but rotation however it isn’t allowed on all three but only two axis.
What is a saddle joint?
One of the bones forming the joint is shaped like a saddle with the other bone resting on it like a rider on a horse.
What is a plane joint?
Where the joint meets there is a slight curve. To allow a little bit of movements they glide and slide very little amounts.
