Joint Structures Flashcards
sutures
(fibrous) found between bones of a skull united by a thin layer of irregular dense connective tissue found between bones of the skull
syndesmoses
(fibrous) greater distance between articulating surfaces. United by dense irregular connective tissue, a bone connected by ligament or a membrane
Gomphosis
(fibrous) located in the socket of each tooth. It is dentovalveolar (slightly moveable)
symphysis
(cartilaginous) connecting material: broad flat discs of fibrous cartilage. Ex. pubic symphysis, intervertebral disc. (seperated by fibrous cartilage)
synchondrosis
(synovial) double layered articular capsule that unites articulating bones. Connecting material: hyaline or fibrous cartilage. Ex. between first rib and sternum. (seperated by hyaline cartilage)
