Joint Capsular Patterns Flashcards
TMJ
limited mouth opening
occipitoatlantal joint
forward flexion limited greater than extension
atlantoatlantal joint
limitation with rotation
lower cervical spine (C3-T2)
limitation of all motions except flexion (side-bending rotation equally limited and both greater than extension)
GH Joint
greater limitations of ER, followed by abduction and internal rotation
SC Joint
full elevation limited; pain at extreme ranges of motion
AC Joint
full elevation limited; pain at extreme ranges of motion
Humeroulnar
loss of flexion more than extension
Humeroradial
losso of flexion more than extension
proximal AND distal radioulnar
pronation equally limited to supination
wrist
limitation: flexion = extension
midcarpal
limitation equal in all directions
trapeziometacarpal
limitation: abduction moreso than extension
carpometacarpals 2-V
equally restricted all directions
upper extremity digits
limitation: flexion greater than extension
T-spine
limitation of side bending and rotation is greater than loss of extension, is greater than loss of flexion
Lumbar spine
marked and equal limitation of side bending and rotation; loss of extension > flexion
SI, symphysis pubis, and sacrococcygeal
pain when joints are stressed
Hip
limited flexion/internal rotation; some limitations of abduction; no or little limitations of adduction and ER
Knee
flexion grossly limited; slight limitation of extension
tibiofibular (proximal and distal)
pain when joint is stressed
talocrural
loss of plantar flexion greater than dorsiflexion
talocalcaneal (subtalar)
increasing limitations of varus; joint fixed in valgus (inversion>eversion)
midtarsal
supination > pronation (limited DF, PF, adduction, and medial rotation)
1st MTP
marked limitation of extension; slight limitation of flexion
IP (toes)
tend toward extension restrictions
