Natural rights

A
  • everyone should be guaranteed a life worth living - building on the liberal idea of natural rights. Modernising the idea of a social contract put forward but Locke by adding the socio-economic aspects.
  • once there was a good minimum standard of living established then importance of natural rights will be there for all.

Wealth distribution

A
  • advocate of redistribution of wealth to make society fairer. Saying it was unfair that some should prosper whilst others suffered and that was the rational choice of the majority was for a more balanced society.
  • denied that redistribution was socialism and advocated a narrowing of the gap between the rich and the poor rather than absolute equality of outcome.
