Johansson Flashcards
What was the method of johansson?
Quasi experiment where works were defined as being at high risk of stress or in a control group.
Who were the participants in johansson?
24 workers at a swedish sawmill. High risk group= 14 works who had to work at a set pace, governed by the production line. Complex job.
Control group= 10 cleaners.
What was the procedure of johansson?
Levels of stress related hormones (ad and nora drenaline) in the urine were measured on work days and rest days. Records were kept of stress related illness and absenteeism. Self reports used about mood, alertness and caffeiene and nicotine consumptions.
What were the results of johansson?
High risk group = more hormones on work days than on rest days and higher levels than the control group.
What were the conclusions of johansson?
A combination of work stressors leas to long term physiological arousal. This in turn leads to stress related illness and absenteeism.
What was the aim of johansson?
To investigate whether work stressors such as repetitiveness, machine regulated pace of work and high levels of responsibility increase stress related physiological arousal and stress related illness.
