Jobs Flashcards
Cell membrane
Located in both plant and animal cells.
Surrounds the cell
Protects the cell
It lets certain things in and certain things out
Nucleus
Located in both plant and animal cells.
It is the command center.
It gives instructions to cell parts and controls the activities of the cell. Contains chromosomes which is DNA & protein
DNA
Located in both plant and animal cells.
It is the genetic material.
It contains information for controlling the cell and the organism to which it belongs.
Nucleolus
Located in both plant and animal cells. Structure that manufactures ribosomes; it is inside the nucleus
Nuclear Membrane
Located in both. Membrane that surrounds and protects the nucleus.
Centriole
Located in animal cells only
Structure that organizes motion of chromosomes
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Located in both plant and animal cells.
It is a passageway where chemicals are made & transported.
It comes in two forms: smooth and rough.
Ribosomes
Located in both plant and animal cells.
They create proteins.
Mitochondrion (plural: mitochondria)
Located in both plant and animal cells.
The powerhouse of the cell.
Converts (changes) nutrients such as glucose (sugar) into energy to run cell processes.
Golgi Apparatus
Located in both plant and animal cells.
Stack of membranes that packages chemicals and protein to send out of the cell.
Vesicle
Package created by Golgi Apparatus
Located in plant and animal cells.
Cytoskeleton
Microtubules & microfilaments form the cytoskeleton.
-Helps in cell movement & gives the cell its shape.
-Found in animal & plant cells.
-Vesicles are pulled along microtubules and
microfilaments from the Golgi apparatus to other
parts of the cell.
Lysosomes
Located in animal cells. It is a type of vesicle.
The cell’s trash can. Sac filled with digestive enzymes.
Breaks down and recycles molecules in the cell.
Chloroplasts
Located in plant cells only.
This is the place where plant cells produce their own food (glucose). They change sunlight to chemical energy.
Responsible for giving plants their green color.
Plant Vacuole
Located in a plant cell only. It is a type of vesicle.
A plant cell has one large vacuole.
Sac that stores water, nutrients, or waste products.
One large vacuole helps the plant cell keep its boxlike shape.
