Q

Tell me about yourself

A

I’ve been in the digital media industry for over 8 years, primarily agency-side, where I honed my skills in media planning, strategy, and execution. I’ve worked with a range of advertisers, from Google to HBO to hint water, managing campaigns across the entire funnel. My experience includes working with platforms like Facebook Ads Manager, Twitter, Snapchat, Google, and Pinterest.

In 2021, I transitioned to sales side at Twitter as a Client Account Manager, focusing on Microsoft. I managed over $40M in revenue, achieved a 15% YoY growth, and introduced new beta products like third-party lead gen forms and branded likes.

Currently, I’m part of the agency partnerships team at TikTok, overseeing partnerships with Havas, Horizon, and Canvas. I develop joint business plans, provide support and education, and ensure TikTok’s strategic integration into their media mix. Last quarter, the deals I manage achieved 142% pacing.

I bring a strong foundation in client management, digital media, strategic planning, and innovative solution implementation, which I am eager to apply in a Senior Account Manager role at Amazon.

Q

Why do you want to work for Amazon and what makes you a qualified candidate?

A

I am particularly interested in working at Amazon as a Senior Client Account Manager for several reasons.

Firstly, We all use Amazon. It is Amazon’s world and we are all just living in it. That’s half a joke, half me being serious, but I’m getting packages multiple times a week. I probably need to slow down to be honest, but Amazon’s reputation for innovation and customer-centricity is unparalleled and unmatched. I really do admire how Amazon continually pushes boundaries to improve and simplify the customer experience and also new advertising possibilities. With Amazon there are product ads, streaming ads, audio ads through alexa, on box ads. There really is no company like Amazon & it continues to evolve which I find to be incredible. I’ve worked at a company in the past that rolled out new products so slowly that it felt like I wasn’t learning at times, and I’m excited for the opportunity to work for a company with such a robust ads suite where there are so many possibilities for brands. I think it will challenge me in a good way.

Secondly, the role of Senior Client Account Manager is a perfect match for my skills and experience. Over the past 8+ years, I have honed in on my abilities in client relationship management, strategic planning, and account growth. & I am excited about the opportunity to leverage these skills at Amazon and further develop my skills, take on challenging projects, and contribute to driving revenue towards the company’s innovative solutions.

I work closely with agency leadership to ensure they’e updated on product developments, implement innovative strategies for driving business results, and integrate advanced measurement solutions. Last quarter, I successfully managed agency deals that exceeded pacing expectations by 142%.

Transitioning to the Senior Account Manager role at Amazon aligns perfectly with my career goals and expertise. Q

What’s your day-to-day in your current role?

A

Day-to-Day Activities in My Current Role:

Maintaining expertise in TikTok Solutions: I start my day by staying updated on the latest TikTok solutions and advertising products. This involves reviewing any new updates or changes and understanding how they can be applied to benefit our clients.

Account Planning and Strategy: I spend a significant portion of my day on account planning. This includes aligning TikTok resources with agency needs to maximize opportunities. I work closely with agencies to develop strategies that leverage TikTok’s ad products to achieve their business objectives.

Client Engagement and Education: A large part of my role involves engaging with clients through meetings, calls, and presentations. I educate clients on TikTok’s ad products, providing them with insights and recommendations tailored to their specific needs. This also includes leading strategic conversations to grow revenue and ensure they are maximizing their use of TikTok’s offerings.

Sales Presentations and Proposals: I create JBP deal presentations and proposals using both internal and external data. This requires a deep understanding of the client’s business and the ability to present data in a way that highlights the value of TikTok’s advertising solutions.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Throughout the day, I address any client issues or escalations that arise. This involves troubleshooting problems and working cross-functionally with various teams within TikTok to resolve issues and ensure client satisfaction.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: I regularly collaborate with Sales leads, account managers, product, measurement and operations to ensure that our efforts are aligned and that we are providing the best support to our clients. I’m also working with these teams to make sure that the accounts that roll up under Horizon are seeing revenue growth. This includes regular check-ins and strategy sessions to drive revenue growth and improve customer experiences.

Client Education and Product Updates: I spearhead client education initiatives, providing them with product updates and advising on the best approaches to drive business outcomes. This includes organizing training sessions and workshops to ensure clients are fully equipped to use TikTok’s ad products effectively.
Identifying Improvement Opportunities: I continuously look for opportunities to improve our ad products and the overall customer experience. This involves gathering feedback from clients, analyzing performance data, and working with product teams to suggest enhancements.

Example Day:
- Morning: Review product updates and industry news. Reviewing agency revenue and seeing how they are pacing towards their deal goal
- Afternoon: Conduct a client training session on new ad features and best practices. Handle an escalation from a client regarding a campaign issue, coordinating with the research team to find a solution.
- Late Afternoon: Collaborate with an account manager to review account performance and identify new growth opportunities. End the day with a wrap-up meeting to discuss the day’s progress and plan for the next steps.

This structured approach ensures that I am effectively supporting our clients, driving business results, and contributing to the growth of TikTok’s advertising platform.

Q

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A

One of the main things I want in my next role is really a place to call home. I want to be able to grow my career somewhere and work at a company that prioritizes career growth

I was a people manager agency side so I could see myself continuing on the account management career path from being a Sr. Account Manager to a Team Lead. I could also see myself pursuing other opportunities like being a sales executive. Either way, in 5 years, I want to be a key leader in the digital media space, be able to make strategic decisions and be able to mentor others.

Q

Why do you want to go from working as an Agency Partnerships Manager to a Senior Account Manager?

A

I’ve had the unique opportunity to experience both roles—first as an Account Manager on an enterprise account at Twitter and currently as an Agency Partnerships Manager at TikTok. This dual perspective has provided me with a well-rounded understanding of the digital media landscape from both the client and agency sides.

Reasons for Transition:
Direct Client Impact: As an Account Manager, I enjoyed the direct impact I had on clients’ success. Working closely with clients, understanding their specific needs, and crafting tailored solutions was immensely rewarding. I want to return to a role where I can have that direct influence on client outcomes, leveraging the strategic insights and relationship-building skills I’ve gained.

Strategic Depth: The Senior Account Manager role at Amazon offers an opportunity to dive deeper into specific client challenges and develop more comprehensive strategies as opposed to the Agency Partnerships role which is more broad and overarching. My experience at Twitter taught me the value of deep, focused client engagement, and I’m eager to apply this in a Senior Account Manager capacity, where I can drive significant business results.

Q

What are your key strengths?

A

Analytical: The first thing I do when I get to work is open my laptop every morning and look at data. I want to see how my clients are pacing, what they’re running, what they aren’t. I excel in analyzing data and pulling insights that drive strategic decisions and optimizations for clients.

Curious: I have a natural curiosity that drives me to continuously learn about client industries, trends, and new technologies. I’m also always poking around and asking client’s questions. The more you pull out of clients, the more you’ll know, and the better you can strategize and determine the best solution. Also establishes trust with the client

Roll up your sleeves energy: I thrive in dynamic environments. I’m always ready to dive in and learn something new. If a project is put on my lap, I’m down to do it for the most part

Q

What are your weaknesses?

A

Difficulty Saying No to Clients: One area I’ve identified for improvement is my sometimes difficulty in saying no to clients. I’m naturally driven to provide excellent service and support, which sometimes leads me to take on more than I should. To overcome this, I’ve been working on setting clearer boundaries and prioritizing tasks based on their impact and alignment with strategic goals. I’ve also been proactive in communicating expectations upfront with clients, which helps manage their expectations effectively

Technical Knowledge Gap: While I bring strong analytical skills, years of digital media experience and competitor knowledge, I acknowledge I have a learning curve when it comes to Amazon advertising, but I am excited at the possibility to learn and eventually become an expert
