Job Knowledge Questions Flashcards
What are the basic equipments for a simple drafting assignment?
A drawing board, T-Square, set of triangles, scales, pencils, ink, protractor, an eraser , curves , and as set of drawing instrucments.
What instruments should your drafting set include?
Ruling pens, compasses and dividers.
What other drafting equipment serves the same function as the T-square?
The straight edge , the parallel straight edge and the drafting machine.
How should a T-square be kept when not in use?
It should be hung up or it should be laid flat.
What equipment can you use to draw lines parallel or perpendicular to a given inclined line?
Two triangles, or a triangle and a straight edge.
What piece of equipment is used to measure angles?
The protractor.
Which instrument is used for drawing small circles and arcs?
The bow compass or the drop bow pen and pencil.
Which instrument is used for drawing very large circles and arcs?
The beam compass.
What three things can be done with dividers?
A.)Transfer short distances on the drawing.
B.)Step off equal distances on a line.
C.)Divide a line into equal parts
Name three pieces of drawing equipment used for drawing smooth curves that are not circles or arcs of circles?
French curves, Spines, and ship curves.
Each new position of the french curves should fit how many plotted points on the drawing?
At least three points on the drawing.
What do railroad curves represent?
Arcs of circles.
How is a ruling pen filled with ink?
Ink is inserted between the nibs of the pen with the quil in the stopper of the ink bottle, or with a writing pen.
How do you control the width of line made by the ruling pen?
By adjusting the screw on the pen.
How are pens cleaned?
By dipping the point in water, in water and ammonia, or in a pen-cleaning solution and wiping it dry with a soft lintless cloth.
Can you guess why you should use a lintless cloth when wiping pens?
Lint left on the pen leaves specks on your drawing surface or creates ink blots when it is dragged along by the pen point.
What case instrument can you use to bisect a line , an arc, or an angle?
A compass
What is easier to draw:
(a) A straight line to a curved one? or
(b) a curved line to a straight one
A straight line to a curve one.
What can you do to avoid overdrawing an arc?
Draw a radius to the point of tangency and stop the arc at this point.
What is a fillet?
A small arc tangent to two lines defining an interior angle.
What is a round?
An arc that rounds an exterior angle.
Can you use the same methods to draw lartge circles, or circular arcs, as are used to draw fillets and rounds?
Yes
What is the point of tangency?
The point where two lines intersect , both having the same direction.
What is a plane?
A two dimensional flat surface.
