Details of Plessy vs. Ferguson Case

A

Homer Plessy refused to sit in the “black train.”
The case went to the supreme court.
Supreme court ruled “equal but separate accomodations” was constitutional.
Opened the door for all the Jim Crow/Segregation Laws.

Main arguments made by Justices Brown and Harlan in deciding Plessy

A

Brown:
-If one race is socially inferior the constitution cannot put them on the same plane.
Harlan:
-The constitution is color-blind
-Segregation implies that colored citizens are inferior.

A

Execution of a person without fair trial by a group of people. Usually hanging. Could include various forms of torture as well.
