JH Net+ CH6 Flashcards
What is IGMP?
p 181
Internet Group Management Protocol is the TCP/IP protocol used for managing IP multicast session.
What is NetBIOS?
P 181
Network Basic Input/Ouput System works only in the upper layers of the OSI model and allows for an interface on separate computers to communicate over a network.
Which port is using on NetBIOS?
p 181
Port 137-139
What is Server Message Block?
P 181
It is used for sharing access to files and printers and other communications between hosts on a Microsoft Windows Network.
Which port is for Server Message Block?
P 181
Port 445
Which port is for Domain Name Service?
P 181
Port 53
What is BootP?
P 182
Bootstrap Protocol assigns an IP address to a host but the host’s hardware address must be entered manually in a BootP table.
What is Host-to-Host Layer Protocols?
P 184
Host-to-Host Layer is to shield the upper-layer applications from the complexities of the network.
What is TCP?
P 184
Transmission Control Protocol takes large blocks of information from an application and breaks them into segments. It numbers and sequences each segment so that the destination’s TCP process can put the segments back into the order the application intended. This process happens at the Transport layer including transmitting host and acknowledgment from receiving end.
What is UDP?
P 185
User Datagram Protocol sends segments off and forgets about them. It doesn’t sequence the segments and doesn’t care in which order the segments arrive at a destination.
How many Bits from the Source port does the TCP segment format?
P 185
Bit 0 - bit 15 = 16 bits
How many Bits from the Destination port does the TCP segment format?
P 185
Bit 16 - bit 31 = 16 bits
How many Bits from the Sequence Number does the TCP segment format?
Bit 0 - bit 31 = 32 bits
T/F? UDP segment Source port 16 bit and Destination port 16.
