What is Shabbat?
The Jewish holy day of the week, helping Jews rest and renew taking a step back from work and the chaos of life, also healing them fulfil one of the mitzvot and to be thankful of his creation.
What are the Shabbat’s preparations?
-Do work and cooking the day before the Shabbat
-Two candles are lit, two covenants, to observe and remember the mitzvot.
-Loaves of bread, how God provided them with food in the desert.
-Wine/grape juice to remember then joy and celebration.
What is a Bar mitzvah?
When a 13yrs old Jewish boy becomes an adult Jew in his faith, where he takes the responsibilities of his worship from his parents onto himself, he learns how to lead a service and wear a teffilfin and and tallit and a kippuh.
What is a Bat mitzvah?
When a 12yr old Jewish girl becomes an adult in their faith, they learn how to keep a house in preparation and they also read a speech in Hebrew.
Describe what happens when Jews marry:
They don’t see each other for a year prior to the wedding, but they plan their lives together.
They reveal themselves to each other for the first time and see their Ketubah.
They exchange rings.
They have their wedding on any day but the Shabbat and may fast to cleanse themselves of sin and to approach the day in good hopes.
They sign the Ketubah
The groom may smash a glass under his heel, symbolising the regret for the destruction of the temple but also showing that their is no joy without hardship.
