The divine presence of God.

A Jewish religious leader or teacher.
Messiah
The leader of the Jews who is expected to live on Earth at some point.
Covenant
A promise e.g Abraham and God had a covenant.
Sanctity of life
All life is holy as it is created by God
Talmud
A commentary by the rabbis on the Torah.
Pikuach nefesh
The obligation to save a life even if it means breaking Jewish law.
Minyan
A group of minimum 10 adults required for a Jewish religious service.
Menorah
A many branched candlestick that holds either 7 or 9 candles.
Bimah
The platform where the Torah is read from.
Ner tamid
Eternal light- Left burning above the ark.
Tallit
A prayer shawl.
Amidah
Know as the standing prayer- the central prayer of Jewish worship.
Brit milah
A celebration of Jewish circumcision.
Bar mitzvah
Celebration of a boys coming to age at 13.
Bat Mitzvah
Only in reform synagogues. Celebration of a girls coming of age at 12.
Shiva
An intense period of mourning
Kosher
Foods that meet the Jewish dietary laws.
Trefah
Foods that Jews are forbidden to eat.
Rosh Hashanah
Jewish new year.
