Why the JET Programme?
I want to join the jet programme for its main initiative that I feel sets it apart from all other organizations which is its focus on Grassroots internationalization, which aims to build bridges between cultures through local connections. Following my 3-week exchange program to Thailand this past May I learned the value of building international networks with people such as local students, through exchanging insight on our cultures and engaging in the customs or daily routines to local students. I would like to continue building international citizenship skills through a reputable program like the Jet program. And instead of learning and networking from the position of being a student i’d like to try working as an ALT
Additionally I learned about Jet through a former classmate whi was able to recommend the program
Why do you want to teach English in Japan?
I am especially drawn to Japan for its unique blend of rich history and forward-thinking innovation. I admire Japanese respect and collective harmony values and am eager to see how these shape daily life. I am also deeply interested in Japanese design, particularly in print media.
do you have any teaching experience
I don’t have any formal teaching experience. But I was a camp counsellor for an arts and science centre where I gained experience working with children from various age groups around 4-12, and I often conducted group activities with them . These activities usually ranged anywhere arts and crafts, reading activities or group Additionally I accompanied them in many field trips and was responsible for their wellbeing
If a student asked about politics, how do you respond?
It depends on the context of the question, if its more of a basic question like in regards to the structure of how politics are in Canada as in like how our government is formed then i don’t mind answering these questions. but if its more personal like who do you vote for
How would you teach a lesson about your country’s culture or history?
Canada is a country in north america, often known for being cold. there are 13 provinces, the main being ontario. the capital of canada is ottawa. it is a large country made up of forests, mountains and lakes. the culture is a blend of Indigenous, European, and immigrant cultures. the majority of people live in houses, in small towns or cities.
How do you bond with your students and the people around you?
I bond with people by being curious and asking questions about their life, their interests, maybe their feelings on popular media
What interests you about Japanese culture?
I’m interested in how Japanese values such as respect, harmony
Would you be willing to drive in Japan to your schools
yes I would comfortable driving as I have my full licence in canada and have good driving experience
Are comfortable with public transit?
yes, its my favourite mode of transpiration. It can be a learning curve at first but i think its crucial to
