Q

Why the JET Programme?

A

I want to join the jet programme for its main initiative that I feel sets it apart from all other organizations which is its focus on Grassroots internationalization, which aims to build bridges between cultures through local connections. Following my 3-week exchange program to Thailand this past May I learned the value of building international networks with people such as local students, through exchanging insight on our cultures and engaging in the customs or daily routines to local students. I would like to continue building international citizenship skills through a reputable program like the Jet program. And instead of learning and networking from the position of being a student i’d like to try working as an ALT

Additionally I learned about Jet through a former classmate whi was able to recommend the program

A
45
Q

Would you be okay with a rural placement?

A

I would be fine with a rural placement as I have travelled before to chiang mai which was a cross between a city and rural area but we also went more north

46
Q

Tell us about a problem that you’ve overcome in teaching.

A

First, I remove the student from the current situation and ask their reason for misbehaving. Listening to the reason can help me understand the context and guide the advice that can direct them toward more appropriate behavior. I once had a student swear in the middle of a lesson.
I asked to speak with him in the hallway immediately. He said the math problem frustrated him. I explained that the consequence of his disrespectful behavior was detention. We returned to the lesson when he confirmed he understood why his actions were wrong.

47
Q

You may find yourself in a far-off, rural area, and you may find yourself feeling isolated.
How do you do with being alone?

A

The first thing would be to prioritize establishing a healthy routine. Which would include healthy eating, sleeping, keeping in contact with family and friends online and maintaing a good excercise routine such as daily walks. the reason being is that when we neglect these things I think our emotions can become heightened and overwhelm us. to deal with being alone

Practice mindfulness such as journaling,

A
49
Q

How will you be a bridge between your home country and your new town or city?

A

The most important thing I think is to stay curious with everyone you meet during your time. And it doesn’t really have to be so elaborateI personally like to start with simple things like if I’m going out to lunch I might ask a student, teacher what they would like eating or what they recommended. I might inquire further and ask why they might enjoy this meal how they would eat it, then likewise usually this would inspire the person to counter with similar questions and engage
