How would you diagnose EB?
positive heterophile test (antigenic cross-reactivity of Abs to EBV and sheep RBCs), AB does not neutralize EBV. Blood contains abnormal lymphocytes (cytotoxic T-lymphocytes produced in high numbers to attack the circulating B-lymphocytes that are infected with EB virus).
DNA tumor viruses: how act?
p53 and Rb are common targets. Point is that they inactivate tumor suppressors.
RNA tumor viruses: how act?
RNA tumor viruses tend to upregulate proto-oncogenes.
Mech for DNA tumor virus to cause cancer?
Ubiquitinate p53, cause it to be degraded. May occur via E6.
Vaccine for HPV?
Yes, Gardisil. 3 doses. Virus light particles, not full virus.
