A
Making links between the sounds of particular words and the objects to which they refer. “Mummy” means the child’s mum.

Understanding a words range of meaning.

Overextension.
A
When a categorical term is used in language to represent more categories than it actually does. E.g calling all animals “doggies”

A
When a word is given a narrower meaning than it has in adult language. Calling the family cat a “cat” but not all cats “cat”

Grasping connections between words: understanding some words are opposite in meaning.
