Q

What is TPR?

A

Turbofan Power Ratio.

Similar to EPR, TPR is a ratio measurement of high pressure compressor exit pressure to low pressure compressor inlet pressure, taking temperature into consideration. TPR Is much more accurate than N1

(P30 x √TGT)/(P20 x √T20)
P30 - HP Compressor exit pressure
TGT - LP Turbine Inlet Temp
P20 - LP Compressor Inlet pressure
T20 - LP Compressor Inlet Temp

Q

When should the PIC consider an emergency landing?

A
  • When checklist says “plan to land at the nearest suitable airport”
  • When smoke/fumes or fire has started in the cabin and it’s elimination is unable to be confirmed.
  • When there are only 2 AC power sources remaining
  • Altimeter malfunction occurs and correct altitude cannot be confirmed by related procedures.
  • Any other situation where significant adverse effects on safety may be possible if the flight continues
