How do you ensure that the patient receives the lowest dose of radiation possible?
Care dose, care KV, Dose right
Is radiation dose recorded for each patient/exam?
The patient protocol page is sent over to i-Site. It includes patient demographics and CTDI/DLP dose
What do you do if radiation dose exceeds expected limits?
Alterted by the scanner - notify radiologist - parameter adjustment or proceed with reason documented
Do you have yearly training on radiation dose reduction?
Yes, the educational coordinator provides yearly training on dose reduction.
How do you verify you are doing the correct patient? Correct study?
Verify name, DOB, verify order, verify correct protocol. If any questions consul the radiologist.
What kinds of medications do you give?
Oral and IV contrast.
What lab work does a patient need prior to injection of contrast?
BUN and creatinine (from which we then calculate GFR)
What are contraindications for adminstering IV contrast?
Allergy, renal insufficiency, anaphylactic reaction to other medications
Where/What are you protocols for IV administration?
Protocol manuals and on collaboration site
How do you screen your patients prior to CT?
Patients fill out screening/history form which is reviewed
What kind of phantom QA/QC do you do?
Daily and monthly QC is entered in QA logbook
What would you do if your daily QC was out of range?
contact clinical engineering and supervisor
What different competencies did you need to work in CT?
ARRT certefied, 12 weeks on the job training with competency check list, CT registry within 2 years
What kind of CE credits do you need?
24 credits bi-annually
How often are protocols reviewed and updated?
Annually
