What were the twenties like?
WW1 had been so bad that people felt lucky to have survived. Young people threw away all the restrictions in manners, clothes and morals that had existed before WW1

In the 1920s, any girl who possessed sex appeal was called a Flapper. Flappers liked dancing, bobbed hair, make up and short skirts. Flappers: drank, smoked, chatted men up and asked men out on dates

What is prohibition?
It was the nation wide ban on the sale, production and transportation of alcohol
What was the Wall Street crash?
In October 1929 the US stock marker crashed. An economic recession( the Great Depression) began which affected the entire world
How did the Wall Street crash affect people
People lost jobs and became homeless. Businessmen became bankrupt and banks were ruined. Unemployment rose. If you had a house perhaps you could not afford to heat it. People became very bitter and blamed the Government
What was the Harlem a renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned in the 1920s. This was when the African American society and cultures was brought into the white American society. At the time, it was known as the ‘New Negro Movement’
What was a speak easy?
A speakeasy was an establishment that illegally sells alcoholic beverages
What was the Charleston?
The Charleston was a mainstream dance made popular in the 1920s. It was used in dance marathons
What was bootlegging?
Bootlegging is the illegal act of transporting alcohol into speakeasies and USA in general
Why were their morals different from before?
Before they had many traditions that people and especially young women and men had to stick to. Now they’re were hardly any and people didn’t care what was thought of them anymore
How was their appearance different from before?
Before the war women were more reserved; shown barely any skin, had long hair and wore minimal makeup
How was they’re language different before the war?
Everyone was supposed to speak proper and grammatical but now they used slang
How was they’re hobbies different from before the war
Women’s hobbies would be sewing and being a house wife. Men would be very family orientated, now they were both mixing in bars, and drinking, smoking and dancing as a hobbie
