What are liver damage patterns according to LFTs?
A
Hepatic/hepatocellular - ALT/AST elevated, alk phos/gGT near normal
Cholestatic - ALT/AST normal, alk phos/gGT elevated
Mixed - both elevated

A
Perforation, bleeding, infection, pancreatitis

Define chronic liver disease
A
Duration greater than 6 months
Can present acutely, duration may be sub-clinical, outcome is progression to cirrhosis, signs and symptoms dependent on underlying disease or features of cirrhosis
pathology - recurrent inflamm and repair with fibrosis and regeneration

What are common causes of cirrhosis?
A
Alcohol, HCV (Hep C), NASH (NAFLD)
