Church Role in French Revolution
The Roman Catholic Church was subordinated to the French Government through the passing of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy
Louis’ escape
Louis XVI failed to escape with him immediate family as they attempted to go to Montmédy, but were arrested in the town of Varennes. This would be known as the “Flight of Varennes”.
Legislative Assembly
Provided focus of political debate and revolutionary law-making between the periods of the National Constituent Assembly and National Convention

People (Mostly aristocrats) who fled France years after the French Revolution of 1789
Sans-cullotes
A lower-class Parisian (Small shopkeepers, Tradesmen, etc.) republican in the French Revolution.
France at War (Austria)
They declared war due to the worry of Austria reinstating King Louis XVI on the throne
Jacobins
The democratic club established in France during the revolution. They were the most radical and ruthless as they were associated with Robespierre during the Reign of Terror
Guillotine
A machine with a heavy blade sliding vertically in grooves, used for beheading people.
Reign of Terror
A period of remorseless repression or bloodshed, in particular Reign of Terror, the period of the Terror during the French Revolution
Maximilien Robespierre
A famous French lawyer and politician who played an influential role during the French Revolution. He was apart of the Jacobins Party and highly associated with the Reign of Terror
