Jason Dion - Network+-007 Flashcards
You are troubleshooting an issue with a network cable. You find that the wires in the cable don’t connect to the proper location on the jack. What is the name given to this type of issue? Explain.
Wire Map Problem - when the wires on a cable and a jack/plug don’t match up. Wire map problems are commonly caused by improper crimping.
Which wireless security method uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for encryption?
WPA2
Which syslog security level indicates a need for immediate attention?
A. 4 - Warnings
B. 2 - Critical
C. 3 - Errors
4. 1 - Alerts
1 - Alerts
Which layer is Layer 6? What does it do?
Presentation Layer - responsible for formatting the data exchanged and securing the data w/ proper encryption.
Which layer is Layer 3 of the OSI Model and what does it do?
Layer 3 is the Network Layer. It deals with how we forward traffic (routing) w/ a logical address (IPv4 or IPv6).
Which layer is Layer 3 in the TCP/IP model. Tell us what it does.
Transport Layer - provides communication session management between hosts and defines level of service and status of connection used for transport by TCP, UDP, or RTP
Which layer controls which terminals are sending and receiving?
Data link.
Which header is bulkier? TCP or UDP
TCP. TCP has 20 bytes and UDP has 8 bytes.
When does the session layer tear down a session?
After the transfer is done or when the other party disconnects.
What’s important to remember about rings?
Rings = redundancy.
What’s important to remember about multiplexing?
It involves taking some limited amount of resource and using it more efficiently. So, multiple people can use a baseband connection at the same time.
What’s a WAN link?
Physically connects two geographically dispersed networks together. Connects an internal network to an external network.
What’s a token ring?
Ring topology that uses an electronic token to prevent collisions by requiring a device to hold the “token” when communicating on the network. It allows them to take turns.
What’s a MAC? Breakdown a Mac Address
MAC - physical addressing system that uses a 48-bit address assigned to a NIC by manufacturers.
The first 6 correspond to the particular vendor that made that card. Second half represents the exact machine it belongs to.
What was implemented to provide redundancy on a ring topology network?
FDDI rings - they use two counter-rotating rings for redundancy. If one ring is broken, the other takes over the network load.
