(the “way of the warrior”) a samurai showed reckless courage, reverence for the gods, fairness, and generosity toward those weaker than himself dying an honorable death was more important than living a long life If a samurai was faced with defeat or dishonor he would kill himself by plunging his sword into his stomach

actors in elaborate costumes using music, dance, and mime, performed skits about urban life
