Explain Jakarta declaration, Chronic conditions and community development in depth
What is the Jakarta declaration?
An extension of the OTTAWA charter of health promotion and is the first to include the private sector in responsibility for health.
What are the priority areas of Jakarta declaration? (PICIS)
- Promote social responsibility
- Increase investments for development
- Consolidate and expand partnerships
- Increase community capacity and empower individuals
- Secure an infrastructure
What is promoting social responsibility? (P)
The committment decision makers must make to social responsibility.
This includes practises and policies that ensure they avoid harming health state of people, protect the environment and ensure resources are sustainable.
What is increasing investments for health development? (I)
Means countries need to invesst more money in interest of health of their nation to make a positive change.
These resouces may include: education, housing and health. They must meet specific group needs.
What is consolidate and expand partnerships for health? (C)
Countries must develop partnerships between governments and broader society.
Local businesses, corporations and organisation should build partnerships with governments.
What is Increase community capacity and empower the individual? (I)
Health promotion must be carried out with people and by them.
Example: education and improved access to resources make improvements in community health
What is secure infrastructure for health promotion?
Is methods for funding health promotion must be found locally, nationally and globally.
What are the 6 aspects of chronic conditions?
- Have complex and multiple causes
- May exist in isolation or may co-exist with other illnesses
- Usually have a gradual onset over a period of time
- Are more prevalent with older age
- Are long-term and persistent (3 months or longer)
- Are the most common and leading cause of premature mortality
Examples of chronic conditions:
Arthritis, Asthma, back pain, cancer, diabetes
What are non-communicable diseases?
Non infectious health conditions, aren’t contagious
What is the NSFCC? (National strategic framework for chronic conditions
Sets out Australians commitment to the reduction for non communicable diseases. It is a guidance for development and implementation of policies and strategies to address chronic conditions and improve health outcomes.
What is objective 1 of the NSFCC?
Focus on prevention for a healthier Australia
What is objective 2 of the NSFCC?
Active engagement
What is objective 3 of the NSFCC?
Aboriginal and Torres strait islander health, action and empowerment
What is community development?
A structured intervention that gives communities greater control over conditions. It aims to address issues of disadvantage and involves all members of society.
It is a process of social change.
