Jacking and securing procedures Flashcards
what are some pre inspections needed for jacking
inspect condition of jacks
check for any bent or damaged components
check the condition of the locknuts]
check oil level
check for oil leaks
ensure jack goes up and down
what is the purpose of the jack pad
to protect the airframe from the jack
where are most aircraft jackpads located
at the jacking point
what should a jacking team consist of
one person in charge as lead and observing front of aircraft
instructions are taken off the lead
what are the steps for lowering aircraft
first raise the collars a few turns so that the jack rams can retract into the jack body - if tight, extend a little bit
then loosen jack relief valve, rams will retract.
make sure to wound up the collar to ensure smooth operation
remove jacks immediately
what are jacking and lowering safety precautions
never put hands between jack and jack pad
make sure it is done on level ground
ensure hand wheel safety nut is raised 1 inch above the jack
raise all jacks simultaneously
check if stabilisers are required
no people allowed in aircraft
parking brake off
chocks

what is shoring
stabilising the aircraft after its been jacked
relieves stresses on the aircraft
trestles placed under major frames to support the fuselage
how are light aircraft secured
light aircraft secured with ropes only tied at the aircraft tie down rings
never be ties to a lift strut
1 inch of slack must be provided for movement
if no tie down fittings, must be secured IAW manufactures instructions
not too tight, not too loose
how are heavy aircraft secured
rope or wire cable
no of tiedowns are dictated by the weather
majority of heavy aircraft are equipped with surface control locks
aircraft securing safety procedures
use approved tie downs
choose appropriate tiedown points
use adequate tension
check tie down periodically
direct ac into prevailing winds
control locks
check wheels
