What is Shabbat
the day of rest in Judaism and is a symbol of God’s day of rest on the 7th day after the account in Genesis 1
when is Shabbat
it begins at sunset on Friday and ends at sunset on Saturday

it is the only holy day specifically commanded in the 10 commandments
When do Shabbat rituals in the home happen
Friday evening, the Shabbat meal

for most Jews, this would be on Saturday morning

It is a memorial for the holocaust
What is the Simchat Torah?
A festival that follows sukkot and is mostly translated to mean “rejoicing the Torah”
What is Yom Kippur
Yom kippur means day of atonement and is when you reflect on what you have done the past year
What is Rosh Hashanah?
It means the head of the year, Jewish New Year and festival of repentance
What is something that happens before Shabbat and why (3)
The home is cleaned and all of the food for Shabbat is prepared because Jews are not supposed to cook during Shabbat
Other preparations to do with electrical appliances also take place
Some Jews also go to a short service before Shabbat

What is Sukkot?
It is the feast of the Tabernacles, sukkot means tents or shelters

Repent and make sure everything is good between you and others

It reminds the Jews that the Israelites had escaped Egypt through God’s help
