IV.) Meteriological Monitoring Systems Flashcards
Meteriological Monitoring Systems
Having a reliable source of weather information is critical for making many pest management decisions.
Keeping track of daily high and low temperatures is fundamental for using researched based biological models to predict pest and crop development.
Weather station and data loggers
Infield weather stations placed in key areas may be part of a network of weather stations that use radio telemetry to automatically transmit weather data.
Data logger is the storage unit of the computerized weather station.
Data is collected in real time intervals, reporting a summary of values which can then be downloaded onto a computer for further analysis.
Handheld data loggers are also available to monitor degree days, chilling hours, or frost degree hours. They also measure the accumulate minimum and maximum temperatures.
Other temperature sources
Temperature information can be attained locally through radio stations or on the web through the national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA)
Evapotranspiration information is available from the California Department of water resources CIMIS program website.
Temperature and other weather information is available through the UCIPM California weather database.
