Propofol (Diprivan)
Dose: 1 - 2.5 mg/ kg (2 mg/ kg), 25 - 75 mcg/kg/min (MAC), 100 - 200 mcg/kg/min (GA maintenance)
Onset: 30 seconds (to unconsciousness)
Duration: 5 - 10 minutes
Concentration: 10 mg/ mL
Etomidate (Amidate)
Dose: 0.2 - 0.3 mg/ kg
Onset: Rapid
Duration: Short
Concentgration: 2 mg/ mL
Ketamine (Ketalar)
Dose: 0.5 - 2 mg/ kg IV, 4 - 5 mg/ kg IM
Onset: 30 - 60 seconds
Duration: 10 - 20 minutes
Dexmedetomidine (Precedex)
Dose: 0.5 - 1 mcg/ kg (given over 10 minutes), followed by infusion of 0.2 - 0.7 mcg/kg/hr
Onset: Initial distribution ~ 6 minutes
Duration: Infusion dependent
Midazolam (Versed)
Dose: 1 - 2 mg in preop, 0.5 mg/ kg orally (in peds)
Onset: 2 - 3 minutes (peak effect for IV)
Duration: ~ 15 - 20 minutes
Flumazenil (Romazicon)
Dose: 0.2 mg IV (over 15 seconds)
Onset: ~45 seconds
Can repeat dose at 1 minute intervals (not to exceed 4 doses)
Thipental
Dose: 2.5 - 5 mg/ kg
Duration: long (elimination 1/2 life of 12 hours)
Methohexital (Brevital)
Dose: 1 - 2 mg/ kg IV, 20 - 30 mg/ kg rectal
Duration: Shorter than thiopental (elimination 1/2 life of 4 hours)
Agent of choice for ECT procedures
