(from the Greek word topikos, local) This word has multiple meanings. It can refer to the subject of a paragraph, essay, speech, etc. It can be a subject for discussion. In medicine, it can also refer to an external remedy that is to be applied outwardly to a particular part of the body.
Topical
Having to do with the topics of the day; in medicine, an outward remedy for a particular part of the body. (THINK: Neosporin!)
Topography
(from the Greek roots “topos”, for place, and “graph”, for write) originally, the detailed, accurate description of a particular place, city, town, etc. It has come to mean the science of drawing on maps and charts or otherwise representing the surface features of a region such as hills, valleys, rivers, lakes, bridges, etc. (THINK: you need a ‘topographical’ map when hiking! You want to know where you might have to cross a river to get to your destination.)
Topophobia
(from the Greek roots “topos” for place and “phobia” for fear) a marked dread of a particular place (THINK: as Halloween approaches – a haunted house!)
