ITS GO TIME Flashcards
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic acid.
Define development
Development is the process by which the first cell of a new individual gives rise to a multicelled adult
Inheritance
This is the transmission of DNA, to offspring during reproduction
Define a consumers
Consumers are organisms that get energy and nutrients by feeding on tissues, waste or remains of other organisms
Define homeostasis
The process in which organisms keep their internal conditions within tolerable ranges by sensing and responding to changes
What is a nutrient
A substance that an organism acquires from the environment to support growth. And survival
Photosynthesis
A process by which producers use light energy to make sugars from carbon dioxide and water
what is a producer
An organism that makes its own food using energy and nonbiological raw materials from the environment
Define reproduction
A process by which organisms produce offspring
Define a yeast
A yeast is a fungi that lives as single celled organisms
Define Archaea
A group of single celled organisms that lack a nucleus but are more closely related to eukaryotes than to bacteria.
Define Bacteria
Bacteria are the most diverse and well known group of single celled organisms that lack a nucleus
What are Eukaryotes
These are organisms whose cells characteristically have a nucleus
What is a fungus
These are single celled or multi celled eukaryotic consumers that breaks down material outside of its self then absorbs nutrients released from the breakdown
What is a plant
A multicelled typically photosynthetic producer
