ITEC 283 - Exam #2 Flashcards
What are the 2 kinds of solenoid valves?
Direct-acting & Pilot operated
Solenoid Valve: Direct-Acting
a mechanical force to shift the spool or lift the poppet is supplied by direct push or pull from a solenoid
Solenoid Valve: Pilot Operated
uses fluid pressure taken from the line for spool shifting and does not depend on solenoid force
Pressure control valves
-to either control pressure or rate flow
-a common misconception is that pressure can be controlled with an orifice or flow control device (needle valve)
- to prevent pressure from exceeding its limit
What are the different types of pressure control valves?
relief valve, unloading valve, sequence valve, reducing valve, counterbalance valve, break valve
Direct Operated
-low flow pumps
-high response circuits (for pressure spikes)
-pressure comp pumps
-remote operation of pilot operated relief valves
Pilot Operated
-Handle higher flows and pressures and does it in a smaller package
-Cracking pressure closer to set pressure
-Slower response time
