what is a denial of service (DoS)
form of attack that makes a computer or network unavailable to the user by flooding the service whit too Meany requests to crash the system
what are the three types of hackers
white, gray and black hat
what is a white hat hacker
they have permission to attack the system to find a weakness so that it can be fixed
what is a gray hat hacker
attacks the system for fun and fixes the damage for free
what is a black hat hacker
attacks the system in order to steal files or causing problems with the system
what is malware
malware is any type of software that is created to make a security issue the device or computer network
what is adware
software that shows an advert to the user can be made malicious with spyware
what is a botnet
a group of internet connected devices witch are running a bot that can be helpful to repeat tasks faster than humans can but can also be used for cyber attacks
what is ransomware
it is a malware that encrypts all the files on your computer to make you pay for the password that decrypts the files
what is spyware
a piece of software that monitors and collects information about what you are doing on a device
what is a trojan horse
is a piece of software that looks valid but is actually a malicio us software
what is a virus
is a simple program that makes copies of itself by attaching itself to another program
what is a worm
like a virus it makes a copies of itself and damages the system
what is social engineering
is the art of manipulating people into giving them there personal information
what is baiting
is where the victim is offered something appealing in exchange for information like login details
what is pretexting
it is where someone try’s to convince the victim to give them there personal information
what is phishing
using a fake version of a website that looks the same as the retail one (most commonly a banks website) so that you input your info into the fake website to be stolen
what is scareware
it builds on peoples fear of malware to install an antivirus that gives them a virus/ other type of malware
what is shoulder surfing
this is where the individual looking over somebody’s shoulder to steal there password
what is the computer misuse act
it says that it is against the law to to gain unauthorised access to a computer if you have the intent to commit a crime or to modify/ change the data
what is the data protection act
this gives user the right to see that data that a company holds of them while also restricting the data that can be collected
what is the copyright, designs and patents act
this makes it illegal for someone to copy your work without permission and gives the owner of the coppiced work the right to sue the person or company that copied the material.
what is the freedom of information act
allows people to ask about the information of a business
what is the health and safety at work act
this ensures that both workers and employers work safely without the risk of people acting recklessly or endangering others. it ensures that people feel safe when at work
