IT Flashcards
Embedded Audit Module
- Program inserted into the client’s system to capture designated (e.g. large, unusual) transactions, for later review by the auditor.
- Can continuously test
- Routines that are built into application programs to provide an on-going audit function.
Integrated Data Check
An integrated data check most likely refers to the type of test performed using an integrated test facility. This test involves the insertion of fictitious records into a fictitious division, branch, supplier, etc. into the master files. Testing can be performed without the knowledge of company employees, as dummy and actual records are processed concurrently. The test is performed, however, at specific points in time. It does not enable continuous monitoring and testing of the client’s computerized information system.
Parallel Simulation
Parallel simulation is a computer-assisted auditing technique in which an auditor-written or auditor-controlled program is used to process client data. The results are then compared to those obtained using the client’s program and differences are investigated.
This technique enables the auditor to test controls in and processing performed by a client program.
Parallel simulation involves processing actual client data through an auditor’s software program to determine whether the output equals that obtained when the client processed the data.
Generalized software
Generalized audit software programs perform common audit tasks, such as footing a file, sorting, extracting, and summarizing. They allow an auditor to access information stored on computer files even with only a limited understanding of the client’s hardware and software.
check digit
- A numeric value that is computed to provide assurance that the original value has not been altered in data processing or transmission.
- An arithmetic manipulation of a numerical field that captures the information content of that field.
worm
A computer program that replicates independently by sending itself to other systems.
