know stuff
What is IT?
Refers to all aspects of computing and its integration into all aspects of todays society and digital platform economy.
What is a computer?
Is a programmable, multi-use machine that accepts data, processes or manipulates it into information we can use, such as summaries, totals, or reports. its main purpose is to speed up problem solving and increase productivity.
What is a RAM? (Random Access Memory)
It holds data before processing and information after processing before it is sent along to an output or storage device.
What does online mean?
Online means using a computer or some other device, connected through a network, to access information and services from another device.
What is a network?
It’s a communications system connecting 2 or more computers, the internet is the largest such network.
What does virtual mean?
It means that something is created, stimulated or carried on by means of a computer or a computer network but also that it seems almost real. Ie. debit cards, apple pay
What is cyberspace?
Cyberspace encompasses the online world and the internet. As well as the whole wired and wireless world of communications in general. Cyberspace is where you go when you go online.
The internet is:
a network of networks, connecting millions of computers via protocol, hardware, and communications channel.
The world wide web is:
the part of the internet that is multimedia based technology.
3 reasons to be tech smart are:
-you make better buying choices when buying a new computer, -you can fix ordinary computer problems, and you can protect yourself from online dangers
Computer best suited for weather forecasting is:
a. super computers
b. microcomputers
c. workstations
Supercomputers because they are high capacity machines with thousands of processors that can preform more than several quadrillion calculations per second.
What is a LAN? (local area network)
A LAN connects by special cable and also wirelessly, a group of desk top PC’s and other devices, such as printers, in an office or a building.
What is data?
Data consists of raw facts and figures that are processed into information.
What is info?
Information is data that has been summarized or otherwise transformed for use in decision making.
What are the 5 basic operations of a computer?
- Input operation
- processing operation
- storage operation
- output operation
- communications operation
What is primary storage? (memory)
is the internal computer circuitry that temporarily holds data waiting to be processed.
What is secondary storage?
refers to the devices and media that store data or information permanently.
What is a peripheral device?
is any component or piece of equipment that expands a computers input, storage, or output capabilities.
What is the cloud?
instead of storing your software and or data on your PC or on your company’s computer you can store it on servers on the internet
What is artificial intelligence?
Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence which is a group of related technologies used for developing machines to emulate human qualities like learning, reasoning, communicating, seeing and hearing. Artificial learning is based on the use of algorithms, formulas or sets of steps for solving particular problems.
3 things needed to gain access to the internet:
- An access device ie. computer with a modem
- means of connection ie. telephone line
- internet access provider
What is baseband transmission?
is when data is transmitted as only one signal at a time.
What is broad band transmission?
is when several signals are transmitted at the same time.
