Issues with Quantitative data Flashcards
What is a primary outcome?
The main outcome for a study
What is a secondary outcome?
An unintended outcome that is discovered
What do outcomes have to be to be appropriate?
Meaningful, measurable, responsive, valid and reliable
What is reliability?
Whether repeated measurements or assessments provide a consistent result
What is validity?
Whether the measurement, process or assessment actually measures what you intend to measure
What is internal validity?
Results are measuring what intended due to the way the study was conducted
What is external validity?
Whether results are transferable to other groups (need external validity)
What are the threats to internal validity?
History, Maturation, Testing, Instrumentation, Mortality and Selection bias
What are the threats to external validity?
Selection effects, Reactive effects (hawthorne effect), measurement effects
