What is the definition of sampling bias?
Sampling bias refers to when the sample in a study does not represent the target population.
What is the definition of ethnocentrism?
That a culture or behaviour is judged by the standard of that culture whilst trying to explain or apply the behaviour of all humans.
What is the definition of the nature/nurture debate?
na-believes our behaviour is innate and a result of biological processes (genes, hormones, evolution etc.)
nu- believes our behaviour is a result of our upbringing and environmental factors (e.g. family life).
What is the definition of the reductionist/holistic debate?
R- breaking down behaviours into smaller component parts
H- the whole is greater than the sum of its parts
What is the definition of the individual/situational debate?
I-centered on one person and behaviour could be the result of personality
S-Focuses on the situation that a person is in and behaviour fits around it
What is the definition of usefulness?
The extent to which psychological research can be considered useful beyond the study
What is the definition of the socially sensitive debate?
research that may be controversial which can offend a person/group/culture.
