What was Glasgow best known for?
Building Ships. By 1914 the city’s firms were producing one fifth of the tonnage of all ships in the world.
What industries created the most jobs?
Shipbuilding, coal, iron and steel.
Industrialisation resulted in rapid population growth. When and how much did the population double to? And what effect did it have on Scotland?
Between 1830 and 1911, the population doubled to 4.761 Million which created a shortage of jobs and forced people into squalor and overcrowding.
What did the introduction of steam power on farms in the lowlands cause?
It began to cut down the amount of time and manpower needed meaning Scots working on these farms were no longer required.
