The fundamental practices of Islam on which everything else is built and are seen as the key to living a perfect Muslim life

Hajj-pilgrimage
Jihad-the struggle to maintain the faith and defend Islam
Amr-bil-maruf-encouraging people to do what is good
Nahi Anil Munkar-discouraging people form doing what is wrong
Twallah-showing love for god and people whom follow him
Tabarra-not associating with the enemies of god
How do Muslims prepare for prayer and who is it important?
They preform ritual washing (wudu)before they pray to make themselves spiritually clean- purification of wudu helps Muslims to fully focus on God in their prayers
They face the city of Makkah-praying in the same direction means that all Muslims are focusing on one place associated with god
What is the Jummah prayer
A sepcial prayer that is held at midday on Friday.
Why is prayer important?
Unites Muslims and brings them closer to god
Explain two contrasting ways in which prayer is practised in Islam
All men are eclectic to attend a mosque for this prayer
Many Muslims use a prayer mat at home which is positions facing Makkah
What is Ramadan
The most important month in the Islamic calender
Night of power
The night when Jibril first started to recite the Qur’an to Muhammad
The importance of Ramadan
Self discipline shows obedience to God
Inspires Muslims to help those in poverty who can’t afford enough to eat or drink
Zakah
Requires muslims to give 2.5% of their savings to charity every year.
Khums
20% of their savings, half of which goes to shia religious leaders and half to charity
What is Hajj
An annual pilgrimage that starts and ends in the city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia
Why is the Hajj important
Produces inner piece and emphasis equality and unity
What must happen before Hajj
Pilgrims must enter a state of purity called Ihram and men dress into sheets of white cloth and women wear a single colour (white)
Similar clothing emphasis unity and equality and shows everyone is equal before god
