Prophethood:
In Islam, Prophets are Allah’s messengers who delivered His guidance. Belief in them is a key part of faith. Muslims believe Prophet Adam (pbuh) was the first prophet and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) the final one.
Risalah
An Arabic word that means ‘MESSAGE’. Muslims believe that the prophets are an important channel of communication
between God and humanity.
Tawhid
The Oneness and Unity of Allah
Monotheistic
A religion that believes in only one God
Shirk
the sin of associating partners with Allah, essentially denying the oneness of God (Tawhid) and attributing any form of divinity to anything or anyone other than Him
Sunni
The largest group of Muslims in Islam.
Sunni Muslims Abu Bakr, Muhammad’s closets
friend was the true Successor of Muhammad.
Shi’a (Shi’i)
Muslims who believe in the
Imamate, the successorship of Ali. believe that
successors to Muhammad should be
connected in some way to his ancestry e.g. Ali
– Muhammad’s cousin.

Immanent
The idea that God is present and involved
with life on earth and in the universe; a quality of God.
Transcendent
The idea that God is beyond and outside

Beneficent
Benevolent, all loving, all good; a quality of
God.
Merciful
The quality of God that shows compassion or
forgiveness to humans, even though He has the power to
punish them.
Fairness
The idea that God treats people fairly and
impartially without favour or discrimination.
Justice (Adalat in Shi’a Islam)
The idea that God is just
and fair and judges human actions, rewarding the good
and punishing the bad.
Allahu Akbar
God is Great
Angels
Spiritual beings believed to act as
messengers of God.
Day of Judgement
A time when the world
will end and every soul will be judged by God,
and either rewarded or punished.
JIbril
The Arabic name for Gabriel, the
archangel who brought God’s message to the
prophets, particularly to Muhammad.
Mika’il
The Arabic name for Michael, the
archangel of mercy who rewards good deeds
and provides nourishment to people
The role of Angels
They act as messengers to the prophets.
They take care of people.
They record everything a person does, and this information is used
on the Day of Judgement.
Izrail, the Angel of Death, takes people’s souls to God when they die.
They welcome Muslims into Paradise and also supervise the pits of
Hell.
Predestination quote Quran 9:51
“Only what God has decreed (commanded) will happen to us. He
is our Master: let the believers put their trust in God”

“God does not change the condition of a people (for the worse)
unless they change what is in themselves.”
Predestination quote Quran 2: 277
“Those who believe do good deeds, keep up the prayer,
and pay the prescribed alms will have their reward with
the Lord.“
What do Sunni Muslims believe about predestination
God has written everything down in the
‘Book of Decrees’
Allah created people and they must acct
according to his will.
Allah is so powerful that He is able to
make anything happen that He wants.
Humans do not have the freedom to
change their destiny, or the overall plan
that Allah has set for them but they do
have some choice over how they
behave.
What do Shi’a Muslims believe about Predestination
Allah is the Creator of time. He is outside
time and so not bound by it. God id
Omniscient. He knows everything that
happens in the past, present and future.
God knows the choices that people will
make but they still have the freedom to
make their own choices.
Resurrection definition:
there will be a resurrection (‘rising’) on the Day of Judgement. On that day Allah will eternally separate the righteous from the
wicked.
Akhirah definition:
Akhirah is an Islamic term referring to Islam
JANNAH – HEAVEN – PARADISE:
Jannah literally translates as ‘GARDEN’. It is a state of eternal
happiness in the presence of God. Some Muslims also refer to Jannah as ‘Paradise’.
JAHANNAM - HELL
Jahannam in Islam refers to an afterlife place of
punishment for evildoers. The punishments are carried in accordance
with the degree of evil one has done during their life. For Muslims it is a
state of total separation from God.
