What is the significance of the Jummah prayer?
The fact that everyone is together reminds everyone people of the wider Muslim community and Ummah.
What is Zakah?
▪️The giving of money. (2.5% of earnings). ▪️Done by Sunni muslims.

▪️Zakah means ‘purification’ - muslims believe that this payment isn’t charitable and is done to purify a persons hear of greed
▪️Believed to be the sharing of wealth given by Allah
What is nisab?
▪️The minimum net worth of an individual required to pay Zakah
What is Ummah?
The unity of Muslims
What is Khums?
▪️An islamic tax on 20% of a persons excess earnings.
▪️Done by shi’a Muslims. It is paid annually.
▪️given to the religious scholar
What is Muttaqi?
A person fully obedient to Allah
What is Taqwa?
The development of obedience to Allah
What is Sadaqah?
▪️Sadaqah is voluntary payment.
▪️Unlike Zakah, Sadaqah is charitable because there are no guidelines and it is optional.
What does the money from Zakah, Khums and Sadaqah go to?
▪️The poor
▪️people struggling in conflict (e.g. Syria)
▪️Khums gives money to madrasahs (muslim schools)
What is Sawm?
Fasting during the month of Ramadan
Why do muslims fast?
▪️To commemorate Muhammad’s first revelation of the Qur’an
▪️The revelation happened on the 27th night of Ramadan, known as the ‘Night of Power’
▪️They believe that their sins will be forgiven by Allah
Which people are exempt from fasting?
▪️the sick
▪️those who are traveling long journeys
▪️pregnant women
▪️women who are menstruating
What is Taraweeh?
Prayers said every night at the mosque during Ramadan
When is it compulsory to attend Taraweeh? Why?
▪️During the final ten days
▪️because according to the hadith, it was during these days that the night if power occurred
What are the effects of Sawm on a believer
▪️They believe that their sins will be forgiven by Allah
▪️Allows them to be a Muttaqi
▪️Allows them to go through Taqwa
What is Niyyah?
A Muslim’s intention to worship Allah with a pure heart
What is the difference between Shi’a Muslims prayer and Sunni Muslims prayer?
Both pray five time a day however:
▪️Shi’a Muslims are allowed to combine Zuhr with Asr
▪️Shi’a Muslims are allowed to combine Maghrib with Isha
