process of umrah

A

enter irham (state of purity, equality, submission to allah)
ni’a (intention)
tawaaf - anticircumabulation of the ca’ba 7 times (awakens consciousness of god being centre of reality, days of creation, islan is about obedience and submission, entering movement of universe)
sa’i - move between two hills 7 times (imitates hagar looking for water, recalls belief that Allah will provide when needed)
exit ihram, enter again for hajj

process of hajj

  • minna (8th day duhl hajj)
  • arafat “hajj is arafat” (day, preparation for judgement day, day of prayer, mountain of mercy last sermon, stand before allah, adam and eve met and received forgiveness, rebirth)
  • muzdelifa spend night (collect 7 stones and pray)
  • eid al adha (festival sort of thing, 10th til 12th duhl hajj) in minna, stoning (the jamarah, 7 stones “allah akbar” imitating abraham and devil, resisting satan’s temptations) sacrifice (slaughter animal, reinacting abraham, meat distributed to those in need (Pillar Zakat) shaving or cutting (releases from ihram “newly born” Quran
  • minna walk to mecca, walk around tawaaf
  • mecca to minna, stone all three jamarat from smallest to largest
  • minna to mecca, farewell tawaaf
