What is Shahadah?
The declaration of faith. Saying and believing the words: “There is no god except Allah, Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.”
What is salat?
Praying five times a day: At dawn/ sunrise (Fajr) At noon (Zohar) Mid afternoon (Asar) Sunset (Magrib) Evening (Isha)
What is zakar?
Giving 2.5% of earnings to charity
What is sawm?
Fasting: not eating or drinking for a month between sunrise and sunset
What is hajj?
Making a pilgrimage once in your lifetime to a special place called Mecca
What is sunnah?
The way Mohammed lived and the things he did
What is hadith?
What Mohammed said
What is the Qur’an?
The holy book in Islam. Muslims believe it is the literal words of Allah

What do Muslims do when they need help?
First they refer to the Qur’an as it is Allah’s words. If that does not help they look to Sunnah and Hadith: Mohammed’s actions and sayings. Then they look at Shar’ia - Muslims scholars and other sources
What is Barzakh?
They time where you wait for your soul to be judged
What is Jannah?
Paradise or heaven in Islam

Hell in Islam
What sources does Shari’ah Law come from?
The Qur’an and the example set by the Prophet Mohammed recorded in the Sunnah
What is Taqwa?
Thinking of Allah in everything you do, aware of always being before Allah, and that He knows everything

What are some parts of a Mosque?
Minaret - tower from which the call to prayer sounds
Adham - call to prayer
Prayer hall - room where prayers happen
Wudhu - ceremonial washing
Dome - architectural piece for beauty, to keep the hall cool and to amplify sounds
Mihrab - facing that way means praying towards Mecca
Minbar - where people give sermons from
Khutba - sermon
Mosque - from ‘masjid’, a place of prostration (bowing down)
What is Islamophobia?
Prejudice, hatred or fear if Islam or Muslims
